A Glimpse into my Creative Journey

To embark on a journey of creativity is to step into a realm where imagination knows no bounds. As I pen down the first words of this blog post, I find myself at the threshold of a new adventure—a journey filled with twists, turns, and unexpected discoveries. This space will serve as a canvas where I illustrate the vibrant layers of my artistic endeavours, explore the depths of my imagination, and delve into the wellspring of inspiration that drives my passion.

I will begin with sharing a bit about myself and how I got here, my path through creativity. I am Nic, also known as Nicole, a visual storyteller, creative wanderer and avid ceramicist. I am the creative mind behind both @nicstakespics_ and @nicsceramics_. I have only just begun the journey of sharing my creative mind and works, but my story didn’t start here. 

Growing up, my creative mind ran wild, getting into any creative activity I could get my hands on. Experimenting with as many art forms as I could yet I always feel back on capturing life’s moments. I was gifted my first camera at the age of 10, just a simple canon point and shoot. I’d use this camera to capture my family, animals and friends. This passion grew and I was gifted a canon DSLR when I was 15. This took my photos to a new level, capturing higher quality shots. 5 years later brings me to now, taking this hobby more seriously than ever and delving deeper into the photography art form. 

Photography isn’t the only piece in my creative journey puzzle. All through my childhood rearranging my room was a school holiday must, trying to reconfigure the furniture for a new feel. High School gave me opportunities to take design classes which led me to a degree in Spatial Design. This degree was the best thing for my creative journey. Creative opportunities were right on my doorstep. From wood working, screen printing and model making, to journal making, sewing and ceramics. Despite touching on the world of ceramics briefly as a kid, this part of my creative journey is new. The facilities and assignments my degree gave me has ignited a new creative spark. The sculptural qualities of clay and its limitless essence gives me a new canvas to work and grow with. This piece of my creative journey excites me as its potential is limitless.   

Now that I am here, I have big plans for my creative journey, from traveling the world to capture the stories and moments otherwise lesser known, to creating ceramic household art forms to share and sell. I perceive my creative talent as an infinite opportunity for growth, expression, and exploration. With being unknown as to where it will lead me, I have faith that wherever I end up, creativity will follow me. Every step is a leap into the unknown, and every moment holds the promise of something extraordinary.
